Who we are

idataraya is a Malaysian software company. We design, build and then operate the systems our clients run their organisations on, across payments, healthcare, retail, property and the public sector.

The engineers who design and build a system are the ones who keep it running afterwards. That is the shape of the whole company, and it is why the roles here look the way they do.

The team

Enterprise engineering. Discovery, architecture, delivery and run for the systems clients operate on.

About the role

You own the service architecture on a client engagement: the data model, the boundaries between services, and the decisions that are hard to reverse later. Once it is live you are still the one holding it, which tends to change how you design.

What you will do

  • Design service boundaries and data models for a system that has to run for years rather than demo well.
  • Write and review the code your team ships every two to four weeks.
  • Take integrations to the point where they hold against a third party's real behaviour, not their documentation.
  • Stay attached after go-live and fix the causes of what goes wrong.

What you will bring

  • Several years building backend services other people depend on daily.
  • Depth in at least one server-side language and a relational database.
  • Experience owning a data model through schema changes, not only consuming one.
  • Judgement about when to keep something simple and when the complexity is genuinely needed.

What we offer

  • Ownership of real systems from the first architecture session through to live operation, rather than a slice of someone else's design.
  • Direct contact with the people using what you build, with no account layer in between.
  • Work delivered in two to four week increments, demonstrated and accepted before the next one starts.
  • More than twenty production engines underneath the client systems, so the same problem is rarely solved twice.

We consider every applicant on what they have built and how they work. Tell us about your experience in your own words, and we will come back to you either way.
